3 Hemp-Infused Foods That You Can Make at Home

by Blaise Reyes |

As more research is being done on the beneficial properties of cannabidiol (CBD), the stigma that previously overshadowed the cannabis plant is dissolving. We are starting to see incredible breakthroughs both in extraction science and in the way that we use and see the cannabis plant as a whole. Some of the greatest things coming out of this commonly-dubbed Green Rush, however, are the recipes!

In this guide, we will show you Verdable’s picks for the top 3 CBD-infused recipes to elevate your dining experience.

While cooking with CBD will not get you high, as it is non-psychoactive, some studies have shown that it may help you achieve better sleep, reduce anxiety and inflammation, and aid in general nervous system homeostasis. When this balance is achieved internally, your external follows suit and you may start to see various benefits come into play.

A few things to consider before getting into it:

  1. You want to know exactly how much CBD in milligrams (mg) you are adding to your food for dosing purposes. Potli’s CBD-Infused Olive and Chili Oils are perfect for measuring your ideal dose, and they taste great!
  2. Since the dosing can vary greatly in food that is made in batches (ex. cookies), it is best to consume a small amount at first and work your way up if necessary.
  3. CBD can lose its potency if excessive heat is applied, so it is best to stay below its boiling point of around 356 degrees to preserve the cannabinoid content.
  4. You can make CBD-infused butter by adding between 10-40ml of an unflavored tincture into a pot with 2 cups of butter and 1 cup of water, simmering it in low heat for around two hours (or until the water reduces), then letting the butter cool before transferring it to a container to be placed in the fridge for consumption after it solidifies.

Recipe 1: Basil Pesto Sauce

This easy-to-make pesto sauce is a timeless classic with a balancing twist! This recipe will bring loads of flavor to the dinner table, from the parmesan to the pine nuts to the olive oil.

What You’ll Need:

½ cup of pine nuts

¾ cup of grated parmesan

2 finely grated garlic cloves

¾ cup of Potli CBD-infused olive oil

6 cups (or 3 bunches) of basil

1 tbsp of salt

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Toast ½ cup of pine nuts on a rimmed baking sheet for 5-7 minutes, tossing halfway through. Transfer the nuts to a food processor and let cool. Add ¾ cup of grated parmesan cheese and 2 finely grated garlic cloves to the processor. Pulse until mixture is finely ground, or for around 1 minute. Add basil and with the processor running, add Potli CBD-infused olive oil in a slow and steady stream until pesto is fairly smooth. Season with salt.

Recipe 2: Avocado Toast

Avocado toast is a great way to start your day. With so many possibilities for toppings, it's hard to go wrong!

What You’ll Need:

½ avocado

2 slices of bread

1 tsp crushed red pepper

salt and pepper

10-20ml of an unflavored tincture

Directions:

Begin toasting the bread to your preference. While it is toasting, cut the avocado and remove the seed. Mash the avocado and upon taking the toast out of the toaster, spread the avocado evenly across both pieces. Take your CBD oil and drizzle between 10-30ml across both pieces of toast and begin to add salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper.

Recipe 3: Strawberry Compote

This compote is perfect for your morning waffles, as an ice cream topping, spread over some toast, or just by itself.

What You’ll Need:

1 pint strawberries

½ tbs lemon juice

3 tsp Potli CBD-infused honey

Directions:

Wash and slice strawberries. Add strawberries and lemon juice to a pot, simmering over low heat for 15 minutes and stirring/muddling occasionally. Add CBD-infused honey and muddle until the consistency is thick like syrup. If it is not sweet enough, feel free to add honey and stir until you achieve your desired taste. Cool slightly before serving.
